As a special guest on the very first International Black Info Call, I’m happy to have won Tecla Robinson! Tecla – who is now working towards her M.A. in Media and Communications in London in one of the best programs for that discipline in the UK – originally hails from Little Rock, Arkansas. A graduate of Philander Smith College (an HBCU) with a degree in English, Tecla – who is 35 yrs. old – calls herself a “non-traditional student”. Though she started college at 18, she soon had the feeling that it wasn’t for her. Instead of wasting time (and money) on something she wasn’t reaping the full benefit of, Tecla decided to take a much-needed academic time out.
Living abroad has always been one of Tecla’s dream. Once she had completed her degree, she began investigating ways to turn that dream into reality. The possibility of spending time in France – her first choice – never materialized due to strict visa laws and lack of sufficient proficiency in the language. With encouragement from one of her college professors, however, Tecla quickly began to put together Plan B:
Enrolling in grad school in London.
To find out exactly how Tecla turned her vision of attending grad school in London into a (financially viable!) reality, just tune in!
